Roles: User Experience and Visual Designer

Summary: The Department of Veteran Affairs in Palo Alto, California specifically is home to nearly 3,000 employees. The federal system* although works extremely well, is dated and definitely needed work internally.

As a UX and marketing designer under Employee Health & Wellness and the Public Affairs Office, the goal of my role was to both help market staff and veteran programs regarding health/wellness. This meant tackling and redesigning the different vehicles of communication to both audiences.

Outcome: Throughout my time there, and at the end of my leave (Sept. 2020) Our team increased employee participation, retention and decreased burnout: through user experience: design, surveying and data analytics.

Staff participation of class programs, events, work “challenges”, went up to around ~1,500+ employees annually. Employee engagement of SharePoint and other wellness platforms rose from ~30 clicks/month to ~500 clicks/month.

*Federal System in reference to the the internal system of the VA, SharePoint, File Sharing Procedures, Internet Explorer, etc.
