Journal 4: Chapter 9-10

The Industrial Revolution not only brought out some of the world’s greatest technological advances, but some of the most intriguing art and posters to study and get inspiration from. Through the combination of advancements of factories, technologies, typefaces, design, literature— this period has what it seems, a never-ending pool of resources and art to look at. The artwork during this time is truly fascinating, and what I love to look at the most are some of the posters that were done during this time. The combination of artwork and the typefaces encapsulates the time period and shows.

One of the games that I played previously has a lot of inspiration surrounding this era, and that sort of sprung my love for the artwork/posters during this period. This game is called Bioshock and a lot of the aesthetic is kind of this steam-punk, industrial style.

Of course, not only was the artwork fascinating, but technology and how it directly correlates and affects visual communication during this time period is something that is quite interesting to think about. It makes me wonder how the technology and advancements today will change the way visual communication is formed, approached and viewed, and how it will further advance for the decades to come.
